This chapter lists new features added to Clip Studio Paint Ver. 4.0.
Updates in Version 4.0
This manual has been updated based on the changes in Version 4.0 as of March 2025.
·The "File Picker dialog" has been added to Android. You can use the file picker to select files and folders on shared storage when saving or opening files in Clip Studio Paint.
·The tools have been rearranged so that more frequently used brush tools are at the top of the Tool palette.
·You can now select multiple tools in the Sub Tool palette. See "Moving tools and sub tools". The option Select with checkbox has been added to the Sub Tool palette’s command bar and palette menu. When turned on, a checkbox will appear beside each sub tool so you can easily select and deselect them.
·You can now export multiple sub tools as a group file. When you use Export sub tool while multiple sub tools are selected, you can choose Export sub tools as separate files or Export as one group file. For details, see "Exporting sub tools" and "Exporting multiple sub tools".
·The Move layer sub tools have been moved to the Operation tool.
· "Correction" has been added to the Sub Tool Detail palette for the Correct line sub tools.
· "Snap to control points" has been added to the View menu > Snap.
·The "Correction" category has been added "When a Gradient layer is selected", "When a file object layer or light table layer is selected" and "When using a Text layer or the Text tool".
·In the New dialog, you can now select between Prioritize quality and Prioritize file size for recording a timelapse. For details, see "Record timelapse".
·Animation frame settings has been added to the "New dialog box (Animation)". Turn this on to add guidelines for the title-safe area and overflow frame.
·In the "New dialog box (Animation)", a checkbox has been added to Number of stories. You can toggle whether to show the number of stories in the project information.
·When importing an image from "Create new file from photo library (iPad)" or "Create new from device storage (Android)", you can extract the lines.
·When importing a movie from "Create new file from photo library (iPad)" or "Create new from device storage (Android)", you can create a new canvas with a timeline.
· "Create New from Movie (Windows/macOS)" has been added to the File menu. You can import movie files and create a new canvas with a timeline.
·Noise pattern has been added to "Export timelapse" and "Export settings" dialogs. You can add a noise pattern in "Watermark settings".
·When exporting multiple pages with "Batch import (EX only)", you can add a watermark or noise pattern.
·When changing canvas properties, you can now add or remove crop marks and animation frames. See "Canvas Properties".
· A command bar has been added to the image list in the Sub View palette. Checkboxes have also been added to the image list so you can select multiple images. See "Functions of Sub View Palette".
·The "Tool Slider palette" has been added. It allows you to adjust brush size and opacity with sliders.
·Preview has been added to the "Color Settings dialog". Turn on to preview the canvas in the selected color.
·The "Magnetic lasso sub tool" has been added to the Selection tool.
·The "Lasso fill" sub tool has been moved to the Fill tool.
·The "Lasso" category has been added to the Sub Tool Detail palette when selecting the "Lasso sub tool" or "Shrink selection sub tool", "Enclose and fill", and "Lasso fill" sub tool.
· "Puppet Warp" has been added to the Edit menu > Transform. This creates a mesh over a selection. You can pin parts of the mesh to adjust the object in detail. You can change the settings in the new "Mesh/pins" category in the Sub Tool Detail palette.
· "Quick Filters" and "Quick Effects" have been added to the Filter menu. You can adjust image colors using color filters and apply effect filters such as blur, and intuitively make adjustments while previewing the changes.
· "Lens blur" has been added to the Filter menu > Blur. This creates a natural blur effect similar to that of a camera.
· "Crystallize" has been added to the Filter menu > Effect. This gives a complex mosaic effect like looking through a kaleidoscope or crystal.
·The dialog for "Convert to lines and tones (EX only)" has been adjusted to make it easier to use. You can also save your own presets.
·Snap has been added to the View menu.Snap to objects has been added to the View menu > Snap. See "Snapping to objects".
· "Show guides while snapping" has been added to the View menu > Snap. You can show guides when snapping to objects, handles, and control points.
·The existing Snap to rulers, Snap to special rulers, Snap to grid, and Toggle special ruler snapping have been moved to Snap. For details, see "Snap to ruler" and "Toggle special ruler snapping".
·You can snap objects and control points to rulers. For details, see "Snap objects to rulers" and "Snap control points to rulers".
·The Frame sub tools have been moved to the Comic tool. For details, see "Frames and Panels".
·The Balloon sub tools have been moved to the Comic tool. For details, see "Balloons".
·The Speed lines and Focus lines sub tool groups have been moved to the Comic tool. See "Speed lines and Focus lines".
·The following are no longer available under File > Export multiple pages: Export in Kindle format, Preview of exported Kindle data, Open export destination of Kindle format, and Export settings for Kindle format. You can export EPUB data for Kindle from "Export EPUB data".
· "Show palette color" has been added to the Timeline palette menu.
·When adding a 2D camera folder track, you can set the name of the 2D camera folder and the output size. For details, see "2D camera folder track".
·You can now add and delete in-between track labels from the context menu on the Timeline palette. For details, see "Create inbetween track label".
·You can now add file prefixes and suffixes when exporting image sequences or animation cels with "Image sequence" and "Export animation cels (EX)".
·You can embed color profiles when exporting image sequences or animation cels with "Image sequence" and "Export animation cels (EX)".
·You can now choose to export layers outside animation folders in the "Export animation cels (EX)" dialog.
·You can now set line colors in the "Export animation cels (EX)" dialog.
·When you tap Settings in the "Export animation cels (EX)" dialog, the "Export settings for PaintMan" dialog will appear. Here you can adjust settings for the line colors and other settings for exporting to PaintMan.[4]
·When you tap Settings in the "OpenToonz Scene File (Windows/macOS)" dialog, the "OpenToonz scene file export settings" dialog will appear. Here you can adjust settings for the line colors and other settings for exporting to OpenToonz.
·An X has been added to the search box in the Material palette so you can clear your search. For details, see "Search for materials".
·You can apply pose sequences to 3D drawing figures and 3D character materials. For details, see "Importing pose sequences". The "Pose sequence" category has been added to the Sub Tool Detail palette when selecting a 3D drawing figure or 3D character.
·You can now import BVH files to 3D layers. For details, see "Importing 3D Files". You can register BVH motion files as pose sequences. For details, see "Register a pose sequence material".
·The ambient light settings for 3D layers have changed. You can set the light color to Single-color light, File, Material, or Panorama. For details, see "Setting up ambient light".
·You can set how shadows appear when selecting a 3D material. For details, see "Setting shadows on 3D materials".
·The Shadows category has been removed from the Sub Tool Detail palette when selecting a 3D layer. The Shadows settings have been moved to the "Light Source" category.
·You can now draw on 3D drawing figures and 3D primitives with drawing tools. For details, see "Painting on 3D materials".
·You can now apply normal map textures to 3D primitives. For details, see "Setting up a normal map texture". The "Normal map" category has been added to the Sub Tool Detail palette when selecting a 3D primitive.
·You can save combinations of 3D drawing figures and 3D primitives as a 3D image material. For details, see "Registering 3D image materials".
·When importing a VRM file, you can now use expression shape keys. For details, see "Using morph expressions".
·You can save your 3D character materials. For details, see "Registering a 3D character as a material".
·You can change the rotation angle of panorama materials. For details, see "Adjusting panorama materials". You can change the setting in the "Panorama" category in the Sub Tool Detail palette.
·You can now lock the Tool palette icons to remain the same even when you select a sub tool with a different icon. For details, see "Change the tool preview".
·The Drawing tool settings in "Preferences" have been moved to "Tools".
·The Touch category in "Preferences" has been renamed to "Pen/Touch (tablets)".
·The Gesture configuration settings in "Preferences" have been moved to "Touch gestures".
·The Cursor details settings in "Preferences" have been moved to "Cursor".
·The Camera Path/Camera settings in "Preferences" have been moved to "Animation".
·The File details settings in "Preferences" have been moved to "File".
·Existing profile at time of saving has been added to "Color conversion" in "Preferences". You can set up an RGB profile to embed in the file.
·The "Lasso" category has been added to the Sub Tool Detail palette. When Magnetic lasso is turned on, you can create a selection area while referencing lines on the reference layer if the background is transparent.
